This size closely reects original early-1900s subway and utility tile, scaled smaller than today’s standard formats. This size is best used for authentic period restorations, classic bathrooms or kitchens and small or intimate spaces. Style: Traditional / RetroDescription: This size feels very authentic to early subway and utility installations. It’s ideal for tighter spaces, detailed areas like backsplashes or niche surrounds, and for designs aiming for a more intricate, handcrafted, or historic feel.Style: Traditional / Retro Description: A true classic. Historically used on oors, shower bases, and wainscoting, 3×3 tile is perfect for period bathrooms, mudrooms, and transitional areas where durability, grip, and authenticity are key.Style: Traditional / Vintage Description: 3x6 is mostly used for running bond pattern. 2x4 and 3x6 are the most common sizes used to achieve a “period-correct” or classic look. Both tiles are ideal sizes for herringbone or basketweave layouts, where larger tiles would look clunky.Style: Mid-Century / Retro Description: They strike a balance between vintage charm and modern minimalism. In a Straight Stack (aligned perfectly), they look very contemporary; in a Running Bond (staggered like bricks), they feel like a 1950s bungalow.Style: TraditionalDescription: This 6x9 tile is the most appropriate when you want to stay true to early 20th century proportions. It’s commonly used for larger wall expanses, historic commercial spaces, higher walls / wainscoting, or if you are looking for a more rened less “brick-like” look.Style: Modern / Transitional Description: These tiles “stretch” the classic proportions, often moving from a 1:2 ratio to a 1:3 or 1:4 ratio. They offer a more contemporary, sleek appearance. Because they are longer, they have a “stretching” effect on the eye. If laid vertically, they make ceilings feel higher; if laid horizontally, they make narrow walls feel wider.28FT00 (2”   8”)Style: Transitional / Modern-Classic Description: Less common historically but still period-friendly when used thoughtfully. It suits narrow walls, vertical layouts, or con-temporary interpretations of traditional spac-es, offering a slightly more elongated look without straying too far from classic subway proportions.48FT00 (4”   8”)Style:Traditional Description: A natural step up from 3×6, 4×8 works well when you want a traditional look with a bit more presence. It’s appropriate for larger kitchens and baths, higher ceilings, or full-height walls where 3×6 may feel underscaled, while still maintaining classic proportions.
